Suddenly We Like Organic Corn So Much We Have to Go to Romania to Get It

American farmers are increasingly finding themselves between a rock and a hard place. As more American’s are waking up to the health hazards associated with genetically modifies products (GMOs), American’s are demanding organic foods such as fresh corn, soymilk, and meats derived from organically fed sources. However in order to become a certified organic grower, farmers must meet U. S. regulations for certification, which includes not planting ‪#‎GMO‬ seeds or treating the soil with synthetic chemicals for three years. That’s three long years of no crop production, how many farmers can survive not having an income for three years? Even if by some miracle the farmers could financially handle letting their fields set empty for the three-year period and become certified it may be almost impossible for them to find the organic seeds needed for their first planting after the long wait. Help us sent the message to organic growers that we appreciate their hard work and sacrifice BUY ‪ORGANIC‬! Read more here.

This short video put out by the Kill the K-Cup movement made us laugh, but we didn’t find the article funny in the least. We have not been fans of the plastic, number 7, non-recyclable K-Cup since their first appearance. Since as we shared in Rich Food, Poor Food, with regards to plastic according to the Environmental Working Group, ‘Trace BPA exposure has been shown to disrupt the endocrine system and trigger a variety of disorders, including chromosomal and reproductive system abnormalities, impaired brain and neurological functions, cancer, cardiovascular system damage, adult-onset diabetes, early puberty, obesity, and resistance to chemotherapy.’ However we also are not fans of Droops Coffee Makers new solution to eliminate the plastic K-Cup. Droops’ single serve coffeemakers will eliminate the coffee filled plastic cups replacing them with coffee in a hard sugar shell. SUGAR, as if we need more sugar related diseases. Read more here.

According to justlabelit.org, 64 countries around the world currently require labeling of genetically modified foods. So what’s the United States waiting for? There have been a few states such as Vermont, Connecticut, and Maine that have passed laws that require GMO foods sold in their states be labeled. Don’t we all have the right to know? Join the fight, visit justlabelit.org to see what you can do to show your support. Read more here.
